Pretty informative article on coopamerica.org about recycling (and/or reusing) items that your garbage collector doesn’t normally pick up curbside.

I read an article on Treehugger about how off-shore wind turbines could potentially power all homes in England by 2020. Yes, there are environmental issues concerning wind turbines, but I feel there aren’t as many as using non-renewable sources of energy. I support wind energy and I find stories like this encouraging.

I came across this article via EcoGeek. The current Ford Escape gets around 30MPG which makes it the most fuel efficient SUV “on the planet” as Ford describes. Kudos. Now, imagine the ability to plug this hybrid in to a standard power socket and charge its batteries while you are sleeping. “Well aren’t you still using a non-renewable resource to fuel the vehicle?” Of course. But this is a good thing for many reasons, but here’s two I can think of. One, we use domestic coal to produce our electricity and not foreign oil (I know it’s still dirty). But most importantly, people like me who buy non-polluting, renewable energy can use this hybrid to get around 124MPG!

Original article from Ford.

SPAMMERs are very creative and adapt to our software defenses. Now, “hackers” can take over your computer (mostly Windows machines because it is the most popular OS) or monitor your computing habits by injecting their pages into search results of Google and other search engines. The following web page demonstrates how it can be done.

Grabbed this from EcoGeek.. This is just another reason I love GOOGLE! –> “Today, Google announced RE — think renewable electricity cheaper than coal. To be honest, it is hard to overestimate the importance of actions like these.”

Meat is delicious, but I find myself trying to eat less and less because of the impact farming animals has on the environment. I think mass production of meat products is quite scary and it increases the probability of E. coli and salmonella break-outs. What are farmers feeding these animals? What drugs or hormones are being injected into these animals? With meat so conveniently available in grocery stores, I think people forget where meat comes from. I believe if people knew what kind of conditions in which animals were raised they would share my reservations.

I recently took part in harvesting organic chickens. Although I was ambivalent with taking part in ending these chickens lives, I understood that eating meat is part of the human diet. I feel very content with participating in stocking my freezer with local, organic, humanely farmed chicken. If you can’t take part in farming animals for food, I don’t believe you should consume meat. Everyone who enjoys tasty chicken should pluck a chicken in his or her lifetime.

Animator vs. Animation by *alanbecker on deviantART

If anyone has ever created a flash animation, you need to watch this. This animation is amazing.. People who don’t know what I mean by “flash animation” will still enjoy the creativity. This movie depicts an animation character attacking its animator!
