On Monday, Michael Vick decided to plead guilty on racketeering, gambling, dog fighting and other charges. I am willing to understand that Michael Vick perhaps grew up with dogfighting and that it may be a part of his culture. However, that still does not make it legal, justifiable or acceptable. I think what he and his thugs have done is horrible; They egregiously tortured and violently murdered dogs. Not to mention that they made dogs fight until the death. I think he should get a longer jail term than 12-18 months. I am undecided about whether he should be banned from football, but I wonder how other players feel being on the field with a man who committed such a terrible crime. I know how I would feel. What makes it even worse is that I have recently read that people (Stephon Marbury and an Atlanta NAACP leader) feel that dogfighting is just as bad as hunting – or at least comparable! I cannot believe that some people think that! How is electrocuting dogs, hanging dogs or allowing the raping of dogs, the same as keeping population of prey animals in check?
