I think mass production of meat products is quite scary and it increases the probability of E. coli and salmonella break-outs. What are farmers feeding these animals? What drugs or hormones are being injected into these animals? With meat so conveniently available in grocery stores, I think people forget where meat comes from. I believe if people knew what kind of conditions in which animals were raised they would share my reservations.

I recently took part in harvesting organic chickens. Although I was ambivalent with taking part in ending these chickens lives, I understood that eating meat is part of the human diet. I feel very content with participating in stocking my freezer with local, organic, humanely farmed chicken. If you can’t take part in farming animals for food, I don’t believe you should consume meat. Everyone who enjoys tasty chicken should pluck a chicken in his or her lifetime.
